about

Track written in: TriloTracker 0.5.6
Chip found in: Atari ST, Intellivision, MSX, Vectrex, later ZX Spectrum models, Amstrad CPC
Other names for chip: AY-3-8912, AY-3-8913, AY-3-8914, YM2149, YM3439

Channels: 3 (3 square w/no duty control, whitenoise toggle on each channel)
4-bit volume, 12-bit pitch
Quirks: Envelopes shared with ALL channels, OR-based mixing causes interesting effects when multiple channels use whitenoise.

This chip came from General Instruments and competed directly with Texas Instruments' SN764xx series. With the exception of the whitenoise and the fact that the chip can reproduce bass, it sounds almost exactly the same. It was licensed to Yamaha for use as the YM2149 — one of Yamaha's few non-FM chips — which they later incorporated into several of their OPN (FM) chips for extra channels and flexibility.
