Here's your chance to get Pretty Eight Machine on Vinyl
I'm Brendan. Most of you know me as Inverse Phase, some of you just know me as "8-bit Nine Inch Nails Guy". Back in 2011, I was doing authentic chiptune covers as a hobby, and someone asked me if I had any Nine Inch Nails tributes. I couldn't find many online so I wrote a quick 2-minute sample overnight to play it for them the next day. People asked me where I found it, who wrote it, and when I told them I did it they told me I had to do the whole album. I kickstarted the album and spent a year and a half doing the best damn job I could.
Pretty Eight Machine ended up being my most popular tribute; I even got to talk to Trent about it. Over the years, NIN went heavy on vinyl, and people have asked if I ever intend to put P8M on vinyl. I didn't have the means to do it then, and I don't now. What I have is 300+ likes on twitter and a whole bunch of people on the NIN subreddit, all saying they will commit, so your message is loud and clear that y'all want it on an LP.
Bandcamp just invited me to press vinyl with them. This program is in beta and requires a minimum order of 250 records. The pressings are high quality, 180~200g, I'm shooting for a cool splatter design, gatefold, and nice looking art throughout. I really want to blow that minimum order away and do 500 or more. I think it can be done.
Bandcamp won't let you press vinyl of audio that doesn't exist, so there's no real risk in pledging. If/when this campaign succeeds, I just go out and purchase any additional licensing required to put the audio on records, and once everything is gravy we'll send it off to the presses. Bandcamp handles most of the vinyl process but I'll keep you updated.
