Harlem OPLL

from Shakebit by Inverse Phase

/

about

Track written in: Custom environment
Chip found in: MSX FM-PAC, MSX-MUSIC, SG-1000 FM Unit, Sega Master System (Japan), Yamaha PSR-6 keyboard
Other names for chip: YM2413

Channels: 9 (melody mode), 6 (drum mode)
6-bit volume, 10-bit pitch
Quirks: only one custom instrument allowed at once

This is one of the simplest FM chips, and was very popular in numerous old 8-bit systems. The OPL family also includes the OPL"1" (YM3526, which was later paired with a DAC for the Y8950 in the MSX-AUDIO) and OPL2, which was on Ad Lib and Sound Blaster cards for the PC. As for what the L stands for, it could be (L)ow cost, (L)ess pins, or just (L)ame. Konami also created their own hacked implementation of this known as the VRC7.
