Harlem SCC

about

Track written in: Custom environment and TriloTracker 0.5.6
Chip found in: Konami MSX SCC games, Konami Haunted Castle and City Bomber (arcade)
Other names for chip: 051649, 2212P003

Channels: 5 8-bit waveforms
4-bit volume, 12-bit pitch
Quirks: no whitenoise, channels 4 and 5 share waveform

The SCC was intended as a companion to improve the quality of sound in a lot of MSX games including Metal Gear 2, Salamander, and even the MSX version of Contra. The SCC was later succeeded by the SCC+ (052539, 2312P001) — where the waveform sharing "bug" was fixed by adding more RAM to the chip — and included as a lone sound cartridge with Snatcher (which was distributed on floppy disks).
