Back in 2010, I parodied a Cee Lo video by Mr. Terry Scruby (the original one with text flying around) and he contacted me to tell me he liked it. He's done all sorts of cool video stuff you might recognise, so check him out at
fishnorfowl.com (his old site
td4.org has some interesting stuff, too) if you like! Anyway, he requested an edited version of this track, which miiiight just make it into his demo reel, and that has me pretty excited.
Fun Fact: Although this is the fourth POKEY track I've written, it's the first to see release on my bandcamp! That means more Atari music soon!
Nitty Gritty: This track is possible on Atari 8-bit systems like the Atari 400, 800, XL, XE, and 5200, but not the 2600 or 7800 (those use the TIA instead of the POKEY). The detuning you hear is an interesting "feature" of Atari hardware. Since there's only 256 pitch choices and those pitches are divided by internal system clocks, you end up with logarithmically-spaced frequencies that don't always line up with chromatic notes towards the high end. I've done my best to work within the limitations provided. Oh, and the cool "SID"-like effect is the "high-pass filter". If you've never heard that come out of an Atari 8-bit before, you can twiddle AUDCTL bits 1 and 2 in BASIC for happy funtimez@!.
